Best Research Solar Cell Efficiency
The future is looking bright for solar! With four-junction solar cells achieving 46% conversion efficiency, the world can harness more of the sun’s energy. However, according to the EIA, in the U.S., the capacity factor, which is a measure of how often an electric generator operates over a specific period of time, for solar was 35.7% in June. The solar capacity factor was the lowest in January at 16.8%. In order for the U.S. to transition to only solar, there is still a long way to go to balance the grid when the sun does not shine.
